Our first visit

We first visited Niagara Falls in June 2005 as part of a trip across Canada to celebtate my wife's 50th birthday .What an amazing place we only had about 4 hours at the falls so not a lot of time to explore.However we did get to ride the "Maid of the Mist" something not to be missed.Be sure you will get very wet even though capes are provided and once close to the falls photography is not really an option.I tried but trying to hold a camera whilst the boat is pitching and tossing and you are getting drowned with water and deafened by the noise is not a good idea.

In the photograph you can see just how close the boat gets to the Horseshoe falls.You can get some really good closeup photos as you pass the American falls which are opposite where you board the boat.
There is also a tour that takes you behind the falls ,with a viewing platform at the base.However as we were short on time ,we didn't try this.

Close to Niagara Falls is a very pretty town called Niagara on the Lake.It is a bit of a tourist trap but neverthelessis still well worth a visit .It has a number of very small shops selling souveniers and local crafts.It also has a number of very nice tea shops where you can get a substantial meal or just a snack .We have visited twice once in June when this picture was taken and again in December ,the horse drawn carriages were still ther but the horses looked frozen.

  • Cons:Gets very busy in peak times
  • In a nutshell:A must see attraction
