We stopped for 2 nights in St.Louis after day 3 and 4 of our Route 66 trip .We stayed in a hotel with great views of the gateway arch and the Missisippi river .We realy only had one full day there so we took a trip up to the top of the gateway arch .Had a trip on the Missisippi in a riverboat .Then walked to the old Union station which is now a shopping mall. |

|  | River trip We took a leasurly trip on a riverboat from the landing by the gateway arch .I was hoping th trip would go as far as the old Route 66 bridge at Chain of Rocks but it stopped a way short.But it was a good way to spend a few hours and we learnt a lot about the river from the guide. |

| | Ted Drewes When we left St.Louis the weather had turned very rainy and we were too early to sample the delights of Ted Drewes Frozen Custard .But as it is a Route 66 icon I couldn't pass without a photo. |
