Canyon from Scenic Overlook

What can you say ?

We arrived at the Grand canyon after a tortuous drive from Winslow on day 12 of our Route66 road trip.We had decided on a side trip as when you are crossing Arizona you can't exclude the Grand Canyon .This was our first glimpse of the canyon from a scenic overlook off of HW 64
Sunset at the South Rim

Sunset at the Canyon

If you go to the Grand Canyon it is a must that you witness both the Sunset and sunrise .The colours of the scenery change and is a fantastic spectacle .When we were there in early June the sunset wasn't too late however the sunrise was about 05:00 am so an early rise was needed. However it is well worth the bother and hey your on holiday so just relax for the rest of the day.
Is that the Colrado down there ?

Pictures can't capture the scale

On day 13 of our trip we ventured to Hermits Rest which is the furthest the road goes along the South Rim .Shuttle buses operate about every 15 minutes and stop at every vantage point along the way .The distance was about 8 miles from our hotel which was just by the Grand Canyon Railway Station .Every viewpoint gives a different stunning view of the canyon some places you can see right down to the Colorado River.
