This is me with my wife Eileen, my son Adam and Daughter Emily at my 50th birthday party in 2003. |
| | Lake District One of our favourite spots in England is the Lake District and we generally have a short break ther every year around the end of April. On the last couple of trips we have started to try a spot of moderate hill walking ,which although a struggle ,usually rewards with fantastic views. We stay at a hotel in a small village called Portinscale which is just outside Keswick in the Northern Lake District. It is a good base to explore that area. The picture is of Aira Force , a waterfall that is close to the town. | | New York We travelled to New York in November 2001 only 10 weeks after the tragic events of 9/11.What a wonderful city ,we only had 3 days there and the Statue of Liberty /Ellis Island was closed for security reasons. However this picture was taken from the Staten Island ferry which is free and sails quite close. The weather was unseasonably warm and sunny and it was strange to hear carols and see Christmas decorations with weather like that. | | Route 66 In 1999 I began to think about my 50 th birthday , although it was 4 years away ,I wanted to do something special. What to do ,I had always loved travelling ,so that was the starting point. But where to go ,the world is a big place. Then I heard the song Route 66 on the radio and the dream was born .Over the next 3 years that dream became reality and in 2002 ( the year before I was 50 ) for two weeks we drove the Mother Road.Following this we drove the Pacific coast Highway from Santa Monica to San Francisco taking another week. | | Across Canada As I had done Route 66 for my 50th Eileen decided to celebrate her half century in 2005 we should go to Canada .So we took a flight to Toronto ,then a train to the Rockies spent 5 days there. Then rode the Rocky Mountaineer to Vancouver spent a few days there then flew to Las Vegas for a further 5 days.Back to Vancouver then home. What an incredible 3 weeks. | | Canada again We enjoyed Canada so much in summer 2005 we decided on the spur of the moment to return there for New Year.So we flew to Toronto on 29/12 and the spent New Years Eve in Niagara Falls .It was magic ,when we visited in June the day was hot and sunny ,what a contrast in December the whole of the falls was like an ice world . Impossible to describe in words See my Niagara Falls Pages for more |
