A Six-Week Sojourn In 2003, I spent about six weeks in Rome. I had little to do but to wander the city on my own, in search of new places where I could be amazed, enthralled, inspired, or simply relaxed. Needless to say, after six weeks of walking the streets and eating little more than pizza and pasta, I not only lost weight, but I also discovered numerous "new" marvels and hideaways. |
An Ancient City The first thing you notice about Rome is how OLD it is. As you walk the streets of Rome, and especially through all the ruins, you cannot help but recreate images in your mind of what the city used to be thousands of years ago. Scenes from the movie Gladiator scroll through your mind as you gaze in wonder at the amazing Colosseum. You automatically begin to compare it with America, which suddenly seems to be only a baby of a country with virtually no history, relatively speaking. With all the history found in places like the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Vatican, and others, Rome is a must for any traveller. |
