Things To Do: Picnic on the Mall
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you are within a short walking distance the Mall is a wonderful place to have a picnic lunch. There are shaded areas along both sides and lunching there is common practice with the locals that work nearby. I suggest a blanket as the Mall lawn is not the cleanest place to lounge on the grass. It is bustling with activity at lunch and wonderful if you are a people watcher.

Things To Do: Cherry Blossom Festival
  • Tip Rating:
  • Washington - A hint of the Cherry Blossoms.
  • A hint of the Cherry Blossoms.

  • The Cherry Blossoms blooming is a must see in DC. In 2007 the celebration is commemorating 95 years since the gift of 3000 cherry trees from Japan. The festival runs March 31-April 15, 2007. The blossoms are truely a sight to behold! The whole of the area is the colour pink!

There is a large parade with many floats and large character balloons. Fun for kids!

I completely agree about the overpriced museum food. Grabbing some frozen lemonade as a treat on the mall on a hot July day is a favorite of mine :). Picnicing and people-watching is so fun!
