"Ndejje Village" Kampala District by emeybee

Kampala District Travel Guide: 3 reviews and 3 photos

The village

I was privileged to be able to stay in Ndejje Village just outside of Kampala for two weeks. It is very much a rural village, so if you're expecting Beverly Hills, or even Texas, you'll probably be disappointed. Many of the people here are very poor, and are faced with the same problems of lack of education, rampant HIV/AIDs and poor water and electricty supply that plague the rest of Uganda.

The homes

Most of the homes in Ndejje are extremely basic, usually one room with no electricty or running water and only bricks with holes as ventilation.

Shopping

This is Ndejje's version of Wal-Mart. One room storefronts selling everything from beans and rice to cell phone top-up cards (cell phones are everywhere in Uganda since land lines aren't reliable)

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Ndejje was a beautiful tropical setting full of character and wonderful people
  • Cons:Poverty is rampant as throughout Uganda, and the people are struggling
  • In a nutshell:Reality.
