Silver Lake Los Angeles

Love at first site

view of Silver Lake
This is part of my neighborhood. I fell in love with the place immediately when I discovered the reservoir on one of my many trips exploring unknown neighborhoods in LA. I was driving east along Beverly Blvd one day and decided to see where it lead to. At one juncture I began to follow Silver Lake Blvd which lead me through a sweet little commercial district and then after an incline and a curve on the road I got my first glimpse of the reservoir. I was smittened. The place felt like it belonged in northern Italy. I later learned that Richard Neutra built a colony of homes facing the lake along the stretch where I first spotted and fell in love with the neighborhood. So...I'm in good company.

The reservoir is a popular spot to jog or walk around.

Smittened

So the love at first site lead to a commitment. I found myself a duplex near the reservoir. The photo here is a view from my place. You can see the wall of the reservoir just above the trees. I wouldn't mind living a little higher on the hill with a better view, but alas, I am only a lowly graphic designer who could barely afford my little crack house fixer upper. I'm just happy to get to live in my favorite neighborhood!

Notice the John Lautner house on top of the hill to the right.

Silver Lake at night

Is not nearly as peaceful as this photo indicates...unless you want it to be. The neighborhood is very quiet. But the nightlife, well that's another thing. You make it what you want, there is so much to do here.
