Among all the "former eastern" cities I've visited in last years, Leipzig is the one where I most got the contrast between the "old" and the "new". It's maybe just a kind of architectural story cause beside the refurbished main square some typical "eastern" building still survive. Anyhow, the feeling is different than the one you can perceive in Jena, Erfurt, Dresden itself ... this is not a city you forget after 2 months.
Quoted from a book I bought: " Contemporary Leipzig remains a place people all over the world have heard of without having a concrete picture of it ..." - this is an excellent description of the feeling I had. |

More info More can be found as usual in www.leipzig.de. The tourist office is in front of the main station area and it has some (but not so many) english written brochures. | | | Street beside tourist office: interesting lights |
