Bergamo

Bergamo is like the place you can rest your tired body and open your busy mind, especially if you come from Milan.
As Milan is "fashion victim" as Bergamo is "how to easy live" victim, as Milan is business oriented as Bergamo is easy life oriented, as Milan's people are not so really friendly, as people of Bergamo could smile you while crossing the street ...
This does not mean of course that Bergamo is a "dead" city or whatever: it is a delightful place where one can go for lot of arts and very specific cuisine.
Surroundings of the city are really amazing and various and they are as (positively) tourism oriented as Bergamo is (positively) not; there are two main valleys in the Bergamo's wide area: Val Seriana & Val Brembana. There you can surely find something to do regardless you prefer walking, skiing, eating & drinking, relaxing, sunbathing and all these kind of things.
Backing to the city itself it is divided in "Citta' Alta" (upper part of the city, situated ontop of a large hill) and "Citta' Bassa" (lower city): the former quite artistic the latter more business oriented ...
but not so much as you can see from my travelogue.
One can easily reach the other part of the city walking, by bus or by means of "la funicolare" (rallway).
Last advice: if you visit Milan plan at least a one day visit to Bergamo: it's worthy of !

Thanks for the shopping tips! It seems like it should foresee some time before checking in at the airport!
