Restaurant Name: Pão Quente Vila

Pão Quente Vila established itself in the centre on Turquel in December 1997. They specialized in Pastry, Pizza and Bakery.

Everything is baked on the premises. The restaurant seats 56 people inside and guests may order Pizza for either take away or to eat on the premises.

I personally enjoy Pão Quente Vila's PIZZAS. One of the secrets, as both Mr Afonso Costa & Mr Nuno Pina explain, is to use good & fresh ingredients.

Restaurant Name: Casa Velha

Casa Velha ("Old House" in english) is the name of a restaurant located at the very top of the Candeeiros Sierra, in Casal Vale de Ventos (*1) population, about 5 kilometres from the centre of Turquel.

One particularity that standout on this restaurant is the rustic stone covering on all its interior walls.

"Old House" is its name but the restaurant's building is of pretty recent construction.

Casa Velha, which is open 7 days a week for lunches & dinners, could be considered a rural restaurant since the food provided is home made & traditional portuguese.

In one word, this restaurant is what I call "simple".

Typical dishes are:
» "Cozido à Portuguesa"
» Kid on the oven.
» Grilled Chicken
» Grilled Rabbit
» Roasted Suckling Pig (Sundays only).
» Fried Cod Fish with fried onions & fried potatoes.

Riding towards the top of the Candeeiros Sierra is always a pleasure. Visitors will immediately notice the pure air to be breathe :). It also allows great views over the nearby villages. On a good day the Atlantic Ocean & the Berlengas Islands are also visible. All this does nothing more than preparing the visitor for a nice home-made meal to be enjoyed next.
