Azmmour in Amazigh (Bereber) language means Olive . This city was started by the Phenicians around 1500 B.C. there are little remains found from that era. The site was very significant for the Phenicians. You see Um Alrabie River is the biggest river in Morocco and it used to provide a Harbor for their ships. The city it self is located on a hill few meter away from where the river meets the sea. Despite this strategic location the city never gained any significance during its long history. It was ignored by the Portuguese and the French. Today it is still ignored by tourist and VTers :-) so why visit?? Well if you looking for a quite beach, a relaxed city, an old medina, cheap accommodation, want to meet real Moroccans and avoid other tourists you can come Azmmour. The city is only one hour drive from Casablanca and you can get to the city by bus or train. In the hight of the summer tourist season, the city is so laid back like you won't believe
