I highly recommend this hotel for folks that don't need nor desire to stay at a typical "westernized" hotel. Our room on the 14th floor (there are 15 in all) was extremely compact with all the amenities. We had a fridge, microwave, cooktop burner, cooking utensils, and a computer screen that can be used as a TV and plugged into your laptop at the same time.
It was fun exploring to see how efficient the room was set up to allow for maximum storage space--don't forget to to find the table that swings out so you don't have to sit on the bed to eat!
The bathroom was toilet and shower combined which meant when you took a shower, your toilet got wet--but this was just another fun learning experience for us.
The rooms were extremely clean with slippers provided for both the bathroom and living area.
2 elevators, one also handicap accessible and a French restaurant (La Nina's) located downstairs. Breakfast was buffet style with a unique mixture of both Korean and Western items. Cost was 7,000 wan per person which runs about $7.00. We never ate there for lunch or dinner since it was a French restaurant and extremely pricey (We were there to experience Korea).
The desk personnel were very polite and accomodating. They made several reservations for us including a trip to the DMZ, reservations to the Korea House for a meal and show, and tickets to the Nanta Theater to see the show entitled "Nanta"--which was excellent and a personal highlight of my trip.
The 2nd floor has two computers which may be rented for practically nothing.
Unique Qualities: 1 block from the Dongdaemun stadium and subway entrance. Four subway stops on Line 4 to Seoul Station. One subway stop (or just walk there) to the Dongdaemun station where you can start your shopping experience. By the way, in the subway area for the Dongdaemun station is where you can purchase the traditional Korean dress and shoes CHEAP! I paid 100,000 wan ($100) for my dress--I compared similar dresses on ebay going for $490. I also bought my six-year old daughter a dress her size for 50,000 wan ($50).
Right around the corner from the hotel is a great Korean, sit-on-the-floor restaurant that has great food, lots of it, and extremely cheap! We paid 11,000 wan for a huge bulgolgi meal.-can't remember the name--just ask the hotel desk clerk.
My son (stationed in another part of Korea) came to visit us and we were able to get him another room at the hotel at the last minute for both a Friday and Saturday. Cost per night: $82.00.
Lastly, you haven't experienced Seoul unless you've eaten at one of their many sit-down street vendors which begins right next to the subway entrance and continues for a few blocks.
