If you think of polar night, you might expect it to be completely dark. It is not. The moon, the aurora, and the sun being not too far below the horizon bring some light in the landscape (if the sky is clear). Still, at some times (midnight, covered sky) you may think that you are placed in a dark box. There is nothing to see apart from the city lights. |
