New Zealand's Most Exotic National Park

You find all my Tips on my Nelson/Tasman Page

Golden sands, turquoise blue waters: Bark Bay.
I know that many people look for the Abel Tasman National Park on VT. As I am a purist I find it too difficult to separate things to do in the national park and other information, and so I have posted all information about the Abel Tasman National Park on my Nelson/Tasman page.

The reason: The area of the Abel Tasman National Park is strictly limited to a regenerating forest region with golden beaches. The places where all tours to the national park start - Kaiteriteri and Marahau - are outside the national park. As is the famous Split Apple Rock and as are the waters of the ocean off the national park's coast line. So strictly seen, if you paddle along the Abel Tasman National Park in your kayak you are not in the national park, just have a view of it... And destinations like the Farewell Spit and the Kahurangi National Park are far from the national park, as is Golden Bay.

So please have a look at my Nelson/Tasman page.

All information about the Abel Tasman National Park is at the top of the tips lists.

I travel regularly to the national park, alone three or four times in the past twelve months. So you will find an array of information about the landscape, geology, animals and plants of this very special region.

The most popular tips are about

The famous Coastal Walk and the Inland Track

Kayaking along the Coast of the National Park

Split Apple Rock and the Geology of the National Park

Seal Swim and Seal Watch at Tonga Island

Birdwatching in the Wetlands of Marahau

Abel Tasman and the National Park

The Marine Reserve off the Coast

The Vegetation of the National Park (and how to distinguish manuka and kanuka)

The Nesting Shags in the Trees
