Bring on the Smog I work in downtown Cairo and make the commute to my office during the work week. On the ride into work I almost always notice the traffic and smog--even after 6 months of living here. I often guage the level of smog based on whether I can see one of the great pyramids in Giza from my office window. More likely than not it is hidden in the haze. |
Food and Water Precautions Food rule: "Peel it, cook it, boil it, or forget it!" Do not drink or even brush your teeth with the tap water Avoid Egyptian liquor due to tainting risks--the beer is good (Luxor Hefeweizen and Nubian are my favorites) If you do get sick, try pepto or immodium. If all else fails you can get Cipro at the local drugstore without a prescription. |
Water and Swimming Precautions Schistosomiasis is present in Egypt! Do not wade or swim in fresh water, unless in a chlorinated pool. In Alexandria or the Sinai the water is okay. |
