I met some of the nicest people in the world here and one of the safest trips I have had as well.
The city is a beautiful tribute to the architecture and history of Mexico. The people truly lived up to it's reputation. With 22 churches and numerous colonial buildings the city deserves it's title from UNESCO as a world heritage site.
Everything is worth a picture here, the buildings old and new, colonial architecture, Talavera ceramics, art galleries, onyx, and textile shops are worth capturing as your memories.
The cuisine was exceptional, everything was freshly and simply made. I enjoyed the street food vendors as much as the fine restaurants, especially the fresh fruit stands where they would make the best papaya juice you have ever had.
Drive here is about 2hrs by bus from Mexico city. The bus was comfortable and left on time.
I wish I spoke spanish and had more time.
The artists colony...a 10 minute walk from my hotel brought me ths beautiful plazuela with many artists showing their work and beautiful galleries.
This is also a great place to sit and liten to live music as they seem to play most of the day.
I spent an hour just wondering around, looking at some excpetional art, getting some lunch from a street vendor and listening to some beautiful music.
Don't miss El Parian ( the handicraft market) just around the corner when all your shopping dreams come true.
Everything you see here is worth a photograph. The historic architecture is impresive and the natural beauty of the mountains that surrounds this city is breath taking.
There is a church or a historical bulding in every place you go to and the homes with their tile and iron work with vibrant coulours make this place truly an architecture admirere's dream.
- Pros:Beautiful, historical, un-spoiled.....
- Cons:Must speak spanish....
- In a nutshell:The sweetest people out side of Sri Lanka..
