For me the Yucatan is such a contradiction. You have the palms and azure blue seas of the Caribbean in Cancun. An hour inland you have the rugged beauty of the jungle. Combine that with the fact that most hotels you can stay in have a pool bar... and well, what more do you need?

The Charm of Cancun

By saying "the poor man's Caribbean", I am in no way trying to say that Cancun isn't as good as anywhere else in the Caribbean. In fact, in a lot of ways, it's better. But if you are looking for a fairly cheap way to enjoy the beauty of the Caribbean, Cancun is your place. The Peso/Dollar conversion guarantees you get a pretty good deal on your travels. Most people (especially in Cancun) speak English. All around, it's a great destination.

"Welcome to the Jungle"

Too many people go to Cancun, and then spend the entire time in the pool of their hotel getting sloshed. Get out and do something! The Yucatan has so much history and you can spend weeks exploring the interior. The Mayan ruins are amazing! The Eco-Parks are equally entertaining. Don't be afraid to leave your hotel and experience all the Yucatan has to offer.
