Become One With The Sea In Newport, Oregon

I often gravitate to the shores of the sea having lived in Brookings, Oregon as a toddler, the sea was my playground and backyard.

Now, when the lights from the city and the noise from the intruding congestion(s) weigh heavy, the sea washes me new then waves good-bye as I return to responsibilities and to those who request and require my attention(s).

We began our day by parking on the waterfront near the shoreline, strolling Newport from one end to the other along a few stretching miles enjoying the welcoming residents of the city's township and their highest quality of labors produced by hard work and their undeniable love for sea life.

Newport offers entertainment in the center of the city by the 20,000 plus populaton; be inspired by marine biology within the 'Under The Sea Aquatic Garden' or by the amusements of a fun filled 'Wax Museum' depicting hollywoods' best portrayal of infamous personalities and celebrities, enter Newport's own house of mysteries in the 'Ripley's Believe It or Not' or feel the hypnotic tug from the mulitple tourist-shops displaying magnificent works of art, sea-crafts and brilliant trinkets created from every imaginable earthly material. Then enjoy samples of foods either spun as colorful tasty treats of sweet taffy or the permeating hickory smoked fish lured to the shore and kept moist and preserved by the savory salts from the sea. Down on the wharf set sail on one of Newports' safest sea travel 'Charter Boats' hosted by fishermen guaranteeing either a memorable adventure or a leisure tour of Neptune's treasures beneath the sea.

Bring your appetite and your love for sonnets because chances are there is a table-side reservation awaiting your presence to serenade you by the city ambassadors, the 'Sea Lion Quartet' literally lounging and/or just 'laying on the dock of the bay'. :o) Then open your menu to the town's freshest catch of the day, a fav of ours; two layers of moist salmon harboring small bay shrimp so delectable upon the tongue, there is a ritual dance that takes on a life of its' own to enamore the taste buds with the richest sauce orchastrated by white wine and capers sinfully prepared to irresistibility! ;o)

We enjoyed the days' end with an after dinner stroll witnessing the sun's encore as it slowly sank beneath the oceans' horizon....only to become one with the sea. ;o)

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Amazing tranquility, friendly people and rejuvenating environment.
  • Cons:A bit windy most of the year and the sonnet from the sea lions can be a bit much. ;o)
  • In a nutshell:Virtually a Pacific Northwest Coastal City that offers something for everyone!
