Lapseki is a very old, small, lovely town located in front of Gallipoli.
It is famous with its fruits, especially with cherry and peach. Every year in mid june there is Cherry festival.
Its known history is more than 2500 year. At ancient time Lampsakos called PITYAUSA . At that period Focas folk went to France and established Marsilya town. When they came back they occupied Lampsakos. After that Miletos took it from them.
Lapseki just entrance of Marmara sea and has key position .From this point of view it was always under military occupation. At that time Lampsakos had to give gold ,jewelleries and fresh animals to Pers Empire. When it could not resist that, Greek Empire occupied it in B.C. 334. Later Roma set their sovereignty on Lapseki and after a short time they took it too .Byzantium administered it very long time.It conquered by Gazi Suleyman Pahsa in 1356 and became a part of Otoman Empire.
