Boulder is at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. It is justly famous for spectacular views, and also a huge draw for all sorts of athletes. The US Olympic team trains in Colorado Springs, down the road, but runners, cyclists, and of course climbers flock to Boulder. Hiking, camping, and fishing also draw sporting types.
For the less active, the comfortably small (about 100,000 people) city with it's friendly and eccentric folks, as well as striking views are a big draw. Don't miss Pearl Street Mall, Chataqua Auditorium, and the city's Open Space and Mountain Parks. There are also hiking, rafting, and climbing courses within the city that range from gentle and easy to highly challenging. Boulder Falls (pictured) is only about a five minute hike up the mountain side, accessible to most moderately mobile hikers. |

| | Taiko in Colorado? I tend to split my time between Colorado and Japan, where I have family and also do research. Because of family and emotional connections to Japan, I'm happy to participate in the small but active Japanese community here in Colorado, too. |
