"ENJOY VILLA DE LEYVA" diditi's Profile
Do you want to relax, to be in contact with the nature? Villa de leyva is the perfect place for you.
Are you tired of the big cities? of the cars? would you like to have an extraordinary contact with the nature?
In Villadeleyva it is usual to have "cabalgatas" (horse tours) all day long or for some hours, they take you to the areas surrounding the town. Great places to visit are:
the dessert, "Bosque de Piedras"(a wood), "Museo Arqueológico" (Arqueological museum), "Cascada Paseo del Angel" (a waterfall), "El Bosque de los Olivos" (a wood), "La Laguna de Iguaque" (a lagoon), "El Centro Astronómico Moniquirá" ( An Astronomic Center), and many more
Villa de Leyva is one of the most beautiful colonial towns in Colombia. Located in Boyaca department 40 km west of Tunja, Villa de Leyva has a nice climate special for all ages.
Villa de Leyva was declarated a National Monument to preserve it´s architecture.
Among the main areas of interests are the Main Square ("Plaza Mayor") where besides the church, there are many restaurants and also stores selling some handcrafted art pieces. Most of the streets around the downtown are made of stones, similar to colonial times.
In Villa de Leyva you can find excellent restaurants and confortable hotels to good prices. Generally, people from all over the country come to Villa de Leyva in August for the "Kite Festival" and December for "Lights Festival". Are really good times to visit the town and enjoy the local customs.
Don't forget to visit a mysterious place called "El Infiernito". The place is in fact the astronomical observatory of the Muiscas. A special place, (((where still the rest of some priests Muiscas in a pantheon of 15 m2)))
People in Colombia are friendly, especially with the tourists. In Villa de Leyva you have to know basic Spanish, because it is not common that the people know English.
If you are from another country, take a flight to Bogotá. Stay the night in Bogota, that has great hotels, we recommend you the north of the city, is safe and close to nice places for eating (Zona T, Zona G and Parque de la 93) and walking.
The next day, we recommend you to take an express taxi that will take you there in about 4 hours.
Every year in September is celebrated this festival, that includes delicious food from this region.
Also you can enjoy great restaurants with typical and international food.
Ask for: "Cocido Boyacense, mondongo, mute, changua, caldo de papa, gallina" and about drinks "chicha, guarapo, masato". All this plates are based on potates or corn or chicken.
