This wonderful island according to the the Lonely Planet is less tropical and more like the scottish highlands. I truly agreed! Once, you get there you'll know why they said that. Batanes is one unforgettable island for me, and the next unforgettable thing in Batanes are the hospitality and honesty of their people "Ivatans". We came home with ube(white ones are abundant in Batanes), and "tuge". These are gifts from Ivatans we passed along the hill harvesting their crops. Giving their crops will shower them blessings according to their beliefs.
I availed a tour package to Batanes, which I think is a lot more convenient. For 16,500 per person, for 4days/3nights with a full board meal. Although the tour asked for a minimum of 4 persons. The agency told us (2 of us) that our tour is possible if we add 10%. Anxious are we, that we still availed of the trip. The price already included our r/t airfare, our tours riding on suv van . a guide and a driver. our meals( we even suggested for a lobster! and viola! we have one! no additional charges!). and lodging at batanes seaside where the staffs are so accomodating. When we requested for their traditional food "lunes", "uvod" and "vines". They kindly served it to us , with no additional charges. If you go to Batanes on your own. You'd likely be spending almost the same, minus the convenience. Renting a tricycle would costs you 250 or more for a day. Transportation is costly in Batanes. So i suggest you avail of the tour as the attractions are scattered on the island. It's not a walking distance!
