Bratislava...I didn't want to leave!

City wall
The forth city on our adventure through Eastern Europe was Bratislava, Slovakia. Words cannot do this city justice. I adored it!

We arrived by train and proceeded to hop on the metro to head into the old city center. Oops...we went in the wrong direction. Thankfully, our first interaction with a local was a sweet man who saw we were confused and horribly lost. He showed us a faded map on the sign post at a metro stop and, in broken english, pointed us in the right direction. He even suggested that we just walk since it really wasn't very far.

My first impression of Bratislava? The people here are wonderfully helpful. After running into more than my share of nasty people in Budapest, I was thrilled with Bratislava.

It didn't end there, the people we ran into the entire time were the same. Friendly and happy to have visitors. We had a blast.
Bratislava is taking a bit longer to come out of the cold war era than Prague. As a result, the US dollar will get you very far. 15 cent beers were the drink of choice in this town.

And the beer is great. Zlaty Blazant, a Slovakian brew, became Joe's favorite and he even brought some home for his dad and my brother.

Bratislava has really held on to much of its history and it shows. Churches, castles, a Medieval city wall all compliment modern structures and artwork that has sprung up more recently.

We loved Bratislava too - took the boat there from Vienna and the train back. Found the old city a delight, as you did. leyle
