Winter in Prague

by Lhenne1 - last update: Sep 3, 2006

Early morning arrival...

Prague before dawn
Three fantastic days in a very chilly Prague. We arrived by train at the Praha Hlavni Nadrazi (main train station). We had taken the night train from Vienna and been woken up many times to have our passports checked by every county line we passed through (got some neat new stamps). After trying to figure out where we were, we decided to hoof it into town, grabbed our packs and started walking.

We passed Sts. Henry Cunigund Church, with a cute and comfortable courtyard, the Powder Tower and the Municipal House. We headed into Old Town Square, crossed the Charles Bridge and began exploring the city. Thanks to the early hour we could wander at our pleasure with no worries of crowds.

Once the sun came up and the city came to life, we were able to reserve an apartment and finally shower! After resting, we headed back across the river, over the Bridge of Legions, through Kampa Island and up to Prague Castle.

That night we spent some time in Wencesles Square, hitting up some bars and a microbrewery for a warm-up.

What a shame having to have a large police presence, we never saw anything like that when we were there, it was very peaceful
