Taking the 6AM bus from Aguas Caliente (see separate page), we got into Machu Picchu in the cold gray of the morning. Two paths lay before us, one up and one down. To the top we went, to a foggy overlook, and as the clouds parted, we saw below the mountain, the green and gray of the ruins, sprawled stately and inctricate above the terraces.

Entering the ruins, we explored the stone nooks of the city, peaked through trapezoid windows, climbed solid staircases and looked down into the valley from the mountain.

Beautiful vistas of this impressive place, both for its architecture and location! I've always wanted to visit - now I'll have to hurry before the hordes get even worse at this new '7 Wonders'!
