Iloilo - City of Gentle Smiles

Smiles

a peddler on the beach
This lady is but one of the many people who throng to the beach near Breakthrough.

She is not most like vendors I met, not at all pushy. She saw me looking at her and she smiled and stopped to ask if I wanted anything. When I told her I just wanted to take her picture she started to laugh and asked what for. I told her she is beautiful and she giggled like a little girl.

Ilonggos have the sweetest, most beautiful smiles I've ever seen. Their smiles seem to permeate their entire being that if I looked closely enough maybe I'll find that even their little pinkie is smiling! :)

Miagao Church

Miagao Church is a Baroque-Romanesque styled church, it was built in 1797. It is decorated with Filipinized version of Hispano-American and Medieval Spanish architecture. For example, the facade is decorated with a relief sculpture of St. Christopher carrying the Christ child seemingly walking among trees (coconut, papaya and guava). It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List.

I am thankful to have a chance to see and touch this beautiful piece of history. The experience made more precious because I visited it with friends. All Filipinos should have a chance to see this.
