This place is a hidden gem in an unlikely suburban location. Harry's cafe is set in the McLelland Art Gallery & Sculpture Garden. It's a picturesque and uncrowded setting overlooking the gardens and large pond. The building will appeal to admirers of modernist architecture.
My husband and I bring all our overseas visitors here in order to show Frankston in its very best light. McClelland Gallery + Sculpture Park is set on eight hectares of landscaped bushland. The park is a mixture of developed garden galleries, wild bushland, open grassed areas, lakes and sculpture trails.
We drop into see the exhibits every couple of months, and visit the Cafe to sit and enjoy a very good coffee and cake, or a light lunch and glass of wine.
The gallery exhibitions change regularly. Amazingly, admission to the art gallery and gardens is still by donation. The shop has great art books and well chosen jewelry and other items made by local artists.
Favorite Dish: They only do lunch and morning or afternoon tea here (no dinner unless privately booked for an event).
We like the coffee and a lemon tart (lemony with a bite to it). The wines by the glass are always well chosen and enjoyable.
For lunch we've had everything on the menu and liked it all. It is all very light with fresh greens and delicate dressings, with fusion influences in the preparation.

Address: 390 McClelland Drive, Langwarrin
Directions: Melways Map Page 103, F3. About 3 kms from Frankston. Take the Cranbourne-Frankston Road and turn left onto McClelland Drive. Entrance is a short distance on the right, inexplicably across the street from a woeful new industrial park.
