"About Ernie & Helene" Ernie44's Profile
We are semi retired enjoy traveling to Europe we have been to many countries as you can see by our photos. We live in a beautiful little town called Sebastian on the east coast of Florida. We are surrounded with our daughters and their families and enjoy being with them, they are not only our children but our best friends. It’s like living in paradise we don’t have any malls, our biggest store is Wal-Mart and that’s good enough for us, if we need to shop for bigger items then we can travel to our south to Vero Beach which is only a short drive and do our mall shopping. We love our little town of Sebastian because it’s a quaint little fishing town and pray it will always stay that way. We live close to the Kennedy Space Center which allows us the opportunity to watch when they launch any of the rockets for the space programs including the shuttle take-offs and returns, were also close enough to Orlando where we have access to the International airport, Disney World and the water parks. We recently purchased an 18ft boat which we love, we have had some great times going out on the Indian River the water just to get away from everything with our grandchildren who enjoy watching the dolphins and I get to do a little fishing. We have lived here for over 15 years and wouldn’t want to live any where else.
We love being out on the Indian River Lagoon as well as the San Sebastian River, enjoying the quite time out on the water. I love fishing and here have been times when we have caught fish and there have been time when we haven’t gotten any, not even a nibble. But I have come one conclusion, just being out with my family and friends and enjoying warm sun, each other’s company is good enough.
I’ll say it again and again “Life is Good in Sebastian, FL”
We love seeing the expressions of joy on the faces of these little girls makes it all worth while, watching as they jump off the boat on one of those little islands to do some swimming or looking for shells and hermit crabs other forms of life, they are learning all about sea life first hand.
They just love watching the dolphins come and swim along side the boat; the girls even were bold enough to go swimming off the boat, in their life jackets with their dad.
Emily love's looking for the wildlife in the San Sebastian River, she saw some Manatee, Raccoon and of course Dolphin as well as 3ft. Alligator. She is a big fan of the late Steve Erwin’s daughter and faithfully views almost all the nature programs on TV.
Ten thousand years ago, the Indian River Lagoon formed along the east central coast of Florida. The "Ais" Indians occupied the area that is now the Pelican Island Wildlife refuge. In 1715, a Spanish Treasure ship crashed off the shores of the Treasure Coast. It is estimated that only a portion of all the treasure has been found. From all the wrecks, the value placed on the entire 1715 fleet has been over $500 million USD.
The town of Sebastian was a fishing village in the 1870s and officially founded in 1882 and originally named St. Sebastian, which was also the name of a river that flowed nearby. Later “St.” was removed from the name of the river, as well as from the city's name. Sebastian was incorporated in 1924. Pelican Island is the country’s first National Wildlife refuge.
There is no theme park atmosphere here, It is a frequent vacation destination choice of residents from the larger Florida cities as well as from the cold winters up north, it's a place to escape from the hectic pace.
Quiet and pristine certainly don't equate to dull! The area is noted for some of the best surfing and fishing in the nation. Skydivers from around the world enjoy an unbeatable combination of sun, sand and surf as their backdrop.
One of our favorite things to do is to bring our out of town guest or visitors out for lunch or dinner at one the wonderful restaurants overlooking the Indian River Lagoon. If you are looking for a nice place to go with a great view, good food we have them right here in Sebastian, like Captain Hiram’s, or the newly opened Mulligan’s
May you always have enough blessings to be a blessing to others. May you always be aware of the sun, even when it's obscured by the clouds and may you always know there's a rainbow hidden somewhere in the storm. May the smile of the Father always motivate you to be who He created you to be. And may you always remember ...the incredible value that God placed on your life when He put Christ on the cross to save you.
