Bintulu is a coastal town, and the capital of the Bintulu District (7,220.4 square kilometers) in the Bintulu Division of Sarawak, Malaysia. It is about 650 kilometers from Kuching and about 215 kilometers from either Sibu or Miri.
The ethnic composition is primarily Iban, Chinese, Malay, Melanau and a large number of foreign workers. |
|  | Getting there The new airport located approximately 23 kilometres from the town centre. The new airport have a 2200-metre runway allowing B747 to land. Eventually, the runway will be extended to 2600 metres from year 2005 onwards to accommodate Airbus A330. Direct connections to such destinations as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Manila, Bangkok and Jakarta are possible with the new airport.
Also available are taxi to service town centres, and scheduled bus trips plying all the major towns in the state. Express boats to provide an alternative for leisure travel to outlaying destinations.
Bintulu taxis provide both long distance and local services. Long distance taxis provide chartered services from Bintulu town to Miri and Sibu.
Numerous bus services within the town area and Tanjung Kidurong are also available. Buses also ply between Bintulu to all the major towns in the state such as Sibu or Miri , from Bintulu to Sarikei and from Bintulu to Kuching. |
