Nakhon Si Thammarat Travel Guide: 41 reviews and 212 photos

As part of our 12 day drive we left Chumphon and headed for Khanom in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, another nice drive of 180 kilometers. From Phuket it is approximately 280 kilometers. What a beautiful area of Thailand this is, we only stayed 4 days but will definately be coming back!

Khanom is a bit off the normal tourist track and is very beautiful and unspoilt with kilometers of lovely beaches and national parks.

It is in the northern end of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province on the east coast of the Malay Peninsula, west is Surat Thani Province and north and east is the Gulf of Thailand.

Nakhon Si Thammarat is one of the most ancient cities in Thailand with many buildings and ruins of historical importance. It was also an historical center of Buddhism in ancient Thailand.

This is the second largest province in Southern Thailand and definitely worth exploring, especially Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan which is a Royal Temple of the First Class. There are also many Festivals held in Nakhon throughout the year.
