Phuket Hotel Tips by Cathy&Gary

We stayed at Andaman Beach Suites for the second time in May/June 2006.

The hotel is high rise. Facilities are good, location is great, close to everything, staff are lovely. Ten minute walk to Bangla Rd, five minute walk to beach.

There are 2 lifts in the hotel, sometimes they are a bit of a worry, lots of clunking noises, once the door wouldnt open. Though the hotel itself is good, just a couple of minor things need fixing.

This hotel is owned by Club Andaman (over the road, next door) so you can use the facilities at Club Andaman as well and charge meals etc.

Unique Qualities: Great views out over the ocean from the higher floors.

Nice big rooms with coffee table and lounges. The junior suites are bigger than a normal sized hotel room, some of these have been redone (on the lower floors) and have bigger and nicer bathrooms and also have lots of kitchen cupboards and a kitchen sink.

Room 612 is huge with 2 balconies. Highly recommend this room!!!

The Suites Restaurant offers all day casual dining with a good selection of Thai and International dishes. The Poolside Snack Corner has burgers, sandwiches, drinks, cocktails etc.

There is a Kids Room, 2 tennis courts, a Fitness Centre and Sauna.

Inhouse facilities include a spacious lobby and reception centre equipped with the latest in communications and secretarial facilities.

Four of us stayed at Club Andaman in September 2005 in the cottages.

Initially we were not happy with the cottages we were given, they were to close to the ones in front, no view or air flow.
Staff were very helpful, showing us balcony rooms in the main building and different cottages.

We did not like the balcony room, was a bit small and very tired looking, it was also raining at the time and there was no protection from the rain at all on the balcony.

After looking at some more cottages we decided on Room 016, any of the 3 cottages in that block are good, my sister and her husband had room 034 (I think)which was also good area.

These cottages were perfect, only views of the gardens and pools in front of us. Cleaning ladies were lovely, lots of days we would come back and find nice little arrangments of flowers in our room.

All staff were very friendly from reception to pool boys. Have no complaints re this hotel at all.

Unique Qualities: Cottages are a reasonable size with inroom safe, tea/coffee making facilities and important for us a coffee table with 2 armchairs.

There is also a table and 2 chairs outside the room. Pool area is very beautiful and big, lovely place to rest and relax.

This hotel is over the road from the beach and next to shops, restaurants, ATM's, massage places etc.

I thought I would post some more photos of Club Andaman as it is such a beautiful place to stay.

Have lunch by the pool, their Club Sandwiches and Chicken Satay's are the best!!

Patong Beach Hotel is in a fantastic location if you only want to be minutes walk from all the action and just over the road from the beach.

The hotel is nicely set out with 2 swimming pools, plenty of restaurants, bars and a nightclub.
Whats nice about this hotel is the rooms are a reasonable size with a balcony.

There are 3 wings and the views are either pool, garden or sea views. The Siam and Sunrise wings are low rise and the Sunset wing deluxe rooms have nice views over the ocean from the higher floors.

We were upgraded to a deluxe room when we checked in due to a US Navy Ship being in town and this hotel must be one of their regular places to stay. So no relaxing around the pool etc as it was toooo noisy, thanks to the US Navy.

The hotel is really nice but we have never stayed there again since our first visit due to noisy drunk sailors!!.

The Patong Merlin Hotel is a big favourite with Australians. (Maybe that's why we never stayed there again, it felt like we were in a hotel in Australia!!).

The hotel has every facility you would want including 3 beautiful swimming pools, lots of sun lounges, gymnasium, tennis court, games room and massage centre.

We found the rooms to be very small and cramped and the balcony was tiny. We actually had to ask to be moved due to the overpowering stench of mould in our room. (We were originally on the ground floor) We were moved a floor higher and this room was fine, there was no smell.

We have no real complaints about this hotel, its just for the price per night there are much nicer places to stay. (With bigger rooms) Everyone has their favourite hotels and areas to stay in and for us Patong Merlin isnt one of them.
