In May 2006 Gary and I spent 2 weeks in Cambodia. We were only there September 2005 (that was my first time there, Gary lived in Phnom Penh for one year in 1992/93).
(We now only have a few days before we are back in Phnom Penh for 10 nights in May 2007, then on to Phuket for 2 months!)
That trip we only spent five days in Phnom Penh and liked it so much we went back this year for 2 weeks and also spent 3 days in Siem Reap.
We are also going back for 2 weeks in May 2007.
I will do separate reports on Phnom Penh and Siem Reap in my travelogue pages and there are heaps of photos on my photo page.
Both places are totally different and have lots of things to see and do. We traveled Malaysia Airlines for the first time (normally we fly Singapore Airlines) and our Siem Reap leg was with Siem Reap Airways.
PHNOM PENH
Well you either love it or hate it, we absolutely loved being in Phnom Penh. I can’t comment on hotels here though as we have friends who live there and each time we stay with them.
They live in a secure compound with a huge pool, the house is 3 story’s, 5 toilets and can sleep 15 comfortably. We had our friend’s driver every day to take us where we wanted, plus they have a cook and housekeeper. (So it was just like being spoilt in a luxury hotel).
It was a lot easier being with friends who have lived there for a few years as obviously they would recommend where to go etc. |
| | Our arrival at Phnom Penh airport was very exciting as we were met by our friends and an old mate of my husbands who he hadn’t seen since he lived in Cambodia in 1992/93, this lovely Cambodian guy was Gary’s interpreter and they hadn’t seen one another for 12 years so there were a lot of tears etc. |
I just love the drive through the streets of Phnom Penh, so many push bikes, motor bikes and cyclos, there is traffic everywhere, there seems to be no road rules but more important no road rage. It’s a city of young people. Buildings that were once modern and impressive now look old and tired. Then next to them are beautiful renovated grand hotels. It truly is an amazing city. Anyway enjoy my Travelogue and tips pages, please keep checking back as it’s a work in progress.
