Be sure to go to the museum on Main street when you are in Trona CA, there are many authentic and interesting things there. Across the street from the museum is the mineral processing factory that employs most of the working population of Trona and a large number of people from the nearby town of Ridgecrest. There is an old turn of the century industrial compressor that has been restored and moved to display in front of the administration building across from the museum. There is even a delightful little deli/restaurant 3 doors down from the museum that is in the old FOX theater that was built over 60 years ago. There is a point of interest marker that tells a unique story of the building that used to stand there but was torn down and is now a parking lot. this site is directly across from the deli/restaurant and across the street is a little town park. The anual gem and mineral show, which they say brings in thousands of people from around the world every October, is held one block away at the Gem and mineral building on Main st. One block from Trona road and Main St, there is also a history house full of historic treasures just off the highway on Panamint St. They even put an old railroad caboose on real railroad tracks beside the house. This is a delightfull little community.
