A Top 5 Must See City | The London Eye - beside our hotel |
Must See City? Of course, who could argue that? I've been to London a few times, and each time gets better I think. The history alone is enough of a reason to love London, but the people make it even that much better. I would have to say that British folks seem to be the nicest and most ‘chipper’ people I’ve met across the globe. I haven’t been everywhere, obviously, but it would seem difficult to top their congeniality. And on top of that, I also realize that there is a huge foreign population in London. But in the city center (the old town), most of the businesses have a majority of Brits running things.
Like Paris, maybe there is just a feeling that the city gives you… something that tells you where you are and just how important the city is to the world. There’s a lot to see there, but at least it is mostly centered around the Thames River. I took a walk on Easter morning and walked from Parliament all the way down to the Tower Bridge, and then back up the other side of the river. The walk took me about 3 hours or so, and I think it covered at least 5 miles. It was very early, so I felt as though I had the city to myself (especially since it was a holiday). |

| | What to Expect London is expensive, however - especially if you are coming from the US. The exchange rate is a tough bite to chew. The city more than makes up for it though. I’ll gladly pay $16 for fish and chips at least one more time in my life.
The city center is safe and like any busy tourist city, get ready to walk. You can see so much by walking that it just makes sense. When your feet get tired, you can take the tubes and hop from site to site with ease though. Oh, and take a week if you can, especially if you plan to see all the big sights. |
