| The Sphinx and one of the pyramids, without me |
| | Museum and Pyramids are a must, of course I don’t mean to be disrespectful in any way, but Cairo was not what I was expecting. When the tour bus entered the outskirts of the city, I noticed that the buildings were very tattered, for lack of a better word. The rooftops were a bit crumbly it seemed. It was almost as if it had been through a mild war. Maybe I was just naïve in my travels, not having seen many places outside the US.
As we neared the Egyptian Museum of Cairo, I noticed most of the buildings appeared much nicer and some even had some modern styling. I didn’t really have time to meet any local people and I couldn’t spend much time meandering the streets. The tour kept me going nonstop. We visited some local shops, the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, and the Cairo Museum. That was pretty much it. I would like to go back someday, but there are so many other places I want to visit, I’m not sure when or if I will. I will be forever impressed, however, by just standing where thousands and thousands of years of history endured, prospered, and almost disappeared. It was a very enlightening – if not ethereal – experience. |
