Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone

Geyser
Yellowstone National Park has been on our list of places we wanted to visit for a long time, even if we have been to Wyoming previously ( only to the south-eastern corner of it). We had high expectations and were not disappointed ! Before this trip , Rocky Mountain National Park was my favorite, but Yellowstone has so many different areas of interest and things you can't see anywhere else, like all of the thermal areas, that I would say this is THE best National Park, if I would have to pick just one.

The only problem with this is that after Yellowstone, whatever NP we visit next will probably be not very exiting. Maybe we should have saved this one for last...
Bison

Hayden Valley

My 2 favorite things at Yellowstone were the animals, especially the bison that walk around just about everywhere, and the thermal features. I probably looked at every one of the hot springs, mud pots and geysers in the park and have way too many photos ....
The kids got tired of looking at them after the second area and stayed in the truck playing cards, with the comment: " once you've seen one geyser , you've seen them all..." . I disagree!! They are all unique.

Hayden Valley is a great place to watch animals. While we were at the park, the bison were mostly in that area, and also deer and elk.
Right before you get there, is the Mud Volcano area.
Eastern Park Entrance

East Entrance

We got to Yellowstone by driving all the way from Orlando, Florida, through Georgia ( @#%@#$!!!!) , Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, to Cody, Wyoming, from where we drove to the east entrance of the park. It took us about a week, since we spent some time in several places on the way ( more pages coming soon).
We stopped in Paducah, St. Louis, Kansas City, Omaha, Sioux Falls, many places in South Dakota like the Badlands, Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park.
On the way back, we drove to the Tetons, and from there to Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois , Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia. We stopped in Jackson Hole, Idaho Falls, Bozeman, Theodore Roosevelt NP, Bismarck, Fargo, Minneapolis, Madison, Chicago, New Buffalo, Lebanon ( !@#%$#$!!!) , Knoxville and Walterboro.

Seems like a great place for outdoor people - you were lucky to see the eruption!
