We went to Bavaria in July 2008 for a few days during a trip to Germany.
We only had time to visit one area in the south-eastern part of Bavaria. On our list of things we wanted to see was the highest mountain of Germany and some of Ludwig's famous castles.
Neuschwanstein is probably the #1 tourist destination in Bavaria, it was certainly the most crowded , even on a day with horrible weather.
The castle itself is beautiful and the location looks like something out of a fairy tale, IF you can try to picture it in your mind without the busloads full of visitors. |
|  | Highest Mountain in Germany The Zugspitze is the highest mountain of Germany. Since we like to visit any highpoint we can either hike up, or get to some other way, this was one of our main destinations and well worth it! The only day of our trip to Bavaria that we had nice weather. The day after a major snowstorm on top of the mountain , in July. |
| | Bavarian Culture Many of the houses in Bavaria have paintings on them. They look very beautiful. Most of them have some sort of religious theme, Christ on the cross, angels or the Last Supper. We even saw one with the Grim Reaper on it.
The whole area is very scenic and the culture seems different from other places in Germany.
I am glad we went, and would like to go back to visit the rest of Bavaria.
One thing I do not care for is the food....oh well. |
