If you have a few extra days in Thailand.. and love nature, then head off to Khao Yao National Park. It is located about 2-3 hours drive N.E. of Bangkok.
I also had the fortune touring Khao Yai and the surrounding regions; including neighbouring Pak Chong vicinity.
Of course Khao Yai National Park has a host of wildlife watching activities, it has appeal to cyclists too. There many walking trials and several waterfalls.. fortunately the rainy season has started so waterfalls are best this time I reckon.
Though driving through roads in the park that caution about entry to elephant and tiger areas, my fortune was limited to sight of droppings by the roadside (don't expect to cross path with them in broad daylight anyway)!
I was more than happy to enjoy scenic views and the cool climate with a glass of wine (quite a few vineyards in the region). There are lovely resorts and golf courses too! So something for everbody. It is a vast area, so to get a good general feel of the region in a few days, I think it is best to tour by car.
The highest lookout point accessible to the public is 4233M at the entrance to radar station (guarded by military). On a short way down, there is a trial that leads to this lovely spot.
- Pros:A vast park
- Cons:A vast park
- In a nutshell:A "close to nature" place to be, you'll love it!
