Italia | Bassano, lunch in Rome, Fiat 500 in Gubbio |
A seemingly inexhaustible supply of some of the planets top art, history, architecture, culture, food...
Perhaps we are overly enthusiastic about this place, but hey, we dig Italy a whole lot.
We have become passionate about this country of passion. The people are passionate about their food, soccer, art, café…
A place History – deep in ruins from Etruscans, Greeks, Romans, Normans, Arabs (check out Sicily for the last 2). There are ruins & art so accessible here, things that would be behind glass in a museum elsewhere, our girls are climbing and playing on.
A Place of Art - The country is crammed with some of the worlds best art & architecture it can at times seem obnoxious (sorry Teresa!). Of course this is the home of the renaissance, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Verdi, Vivaldi, Palladio, and what else… Ferrari, pasta, Versace, pizza, and the reigning World Cup Champions.
For us, when traveling the interaction with the people is a significant part of the experience. In Italy, this (usually) only adds to the beauty of the country. We have had some of the best encounters with locals in Italy.

Some Info Italy is Similar in area to the US State of Arizona
The Country is broken down into 20 regions, 18 on the boot, and the 2 islands of Sicilia and Sardegnia. (so far we've hit 17 on our quest to cover them all - A little difficult now, living on an island in the SW pacific.. so we'll just have to return down the road) Most regions have a distinct landscape, cuisine, and language dialects. Some of the most popular regions, all of which we’ve done detailed separate pages for, include:
Tuscany & Umbria in the center, Veneto with it’s capitol city of Venice in the North, Liguria & Cinque Terre on the N/W coast.
Campania with Napoli, Amalfi Coast, Pompeii
Check out our pages on the regions above, all top ranked-
------------------------------------------------------------ | | | Como - one of the beautiful lakes in the north |
|
| Abbazia San Antimo - Toscana |
The bad? I’ll say that most of the negative stereotypes about Italy that I had heard prior to moving here have proven to be false or greatly exaggerated. Big examples include overall safety, crime, bad driving, gypsies, etc. Take normal precautions, protect against pickpockets and you should be fine (speaking about Napoli and north anyway).
Like most places, there are other differences that some see as negatives. If you can realize that this is just how things are done here and go with it you’ll be fine. (like shops and other sites often closed from 12-3 p.m., drivers are “more flexible” with the rules of the road, evening meals may not start until after 7 p.m.).
