    Getting TO/AROUND: There are a few ways to get to the Island. The cheapest is a free ride from one of the Glass factories that shuttle tourists from the waters at San Marco. The only requirement is that you sit through a glass making demonstration (around 20 minutes, interesting) and then you are free to go.

    But to come back (and also another way to get there), the city public boat system has a few lines that run regularly. Most common ones to take are 41, 42, and DM (Directo Murano). You can pick these boats up at a number of places including San Zaccharia stop near San Marco, or Fondemente Nuove/Madonna Dell'Orto on the North side of Venice. These lines will get you back to the train station and Piazzale Roma.
