This is a very small place, but you can't possibly go to Madrid and not try their patented spicy brava sauce.

We got there minutes before they closed for siesta and the staff was kind enough to give us a few extra minutes so we could eat, although pretty quickly.

Museo del Jamon: Stop for a bocadillo

Those are all over Madrid - I wanted to try this restaurant but I didn't even have to look for one, they seemed to find me constantly!

This is a very popular place and it's definitely worth a stop. You can eat at the bar, sit a table or buy foods to cook at home. There are hams hanging from the wall, which is surprising at first, especially when you see employees climb up a ladder to get one of them!

The food was cheap: we got two bodadillos and two cafés con leche for 5€.

San Ginés Chocolateria: For your daily sugar fix

For churros con chocolate (which is basically melted chocolate in a cup), this is the place. Having heard it was pretty packed all the time, we went during siesta - we were the only two persons in the place!

Pay attention when you look for the place - I happened to turn my head to the right when we passed a street just in time, else we'd have missed it.

Vips restaurants: Because sometimes American food is reassuring...

    Fast-food in Spain!

We went because that's another restaurant that you find around every street and I'll admit it was nice to get a little American food into our slighty destabilized bodies!

We only went once though, because after all, we were there to taste typical Spanish food...!

We went to the terrace of El Espejo twice and both times it was a great experience. Good food (liked the Sangria a lot) in a very relaxing setting - the second night, there even was a piano player!

Food is cheap and this is where we had our first blanco y negro!

Giangrossi helado artesanal: Ice cream to die for

This is the best ice cream you'll ever taste! Try white chocolate: incredible rich taste and real pieces of white chocolate in it!!!

I was amused because it was probably the first time someone served me an ice cream cone while I sat at a table. The decoration is awesome and very modern: white, tall stools and tables and leather sofas. Great!

Cafeteria-Restaurante Arysol: Good food at a good price

This is a relatively small place which represents well most restaurants in Madrid: you have the choice between sitting at a table or standing at the bar and the food is pretty much what you find in any restaurant. The food is cheap and you might find the fact that the menu is available in English as well as in Spanish useful.

All in all, a good restaurant.
