The End Of The Working Cook?s Day

When I passed onwards my earthly coil I continued to confuse them all..
Peter, at his gate, consulted his register, found my name on it and laughed,
?Downstairs for you my friend.? He chuckled Christianly and threw me out.

So downstairs I went. I sought the guardian of that portal and found him nowhere to be seen.
The fires were banked but no young lambs were roasting - no smell of burning flesh.
The receptionist seemed unavailable and so I couldn?t enquire the bar opening times.

From the rack I took a key - it had a number - and descending further I sought the lock it may fit.
Through corridors whose lamps automatically lit as I crossed their sensors
Eventually I found my room, which only that key unlocked - a hearth awaited..

There is nothing more holy than a god-given, red-flamed, welcoming inferno.
Whether logs, coals, charcoals, books or bodies - whatever fuels my welcome -
I kicked off my shoes, my socks and finally released my aching feet from their constraints.

A paradise indeed.
