where the twain of us shall meet.

Dappled spaniel, the laundry room is yours -
the garden, so long as you don't dig in it, is ours.
The kitchen is mine, yours is upstairs -
and The Cat, niether worries nor cares.

The cat, whose only name is CAT -
no formal introductions have been made,
needs no looking after and is never afraid,
unlike Ben who challenges, but only so far as that

and runs meekly when spoken to
with tones and words he knows true.
