My mother's younger sister Cleta, still lives here.
This town is also atop a mountain and is about 10 mins drive from Appignano...
There are little villages everywhere in this locale, like most of Itlay and it's rural areas. So quaint and yet modern. Well to a degree...
I've bought some beautiful clothes from this little town, of course being Italian made what would you expect!!! ;)
An event I have luckily experienced was the Annual Carnivale.
This happens in February where they have a huge party for a week.
Fancy Dress... They have a Fake Running of the Bull where everyone wears White clothing with a Red sash... But it's all about the party and drinking... At the end of the Carnivale they have a procession where a long line of people walk holding over their shoulders huge bundles of long sticks of wood that are alight at the end.
They walk around the village praying till they reach the center piazza where they place the burning wood in a huge pile. When the last pile has been laid everyone dances around the flames until it dies down.
That is the end of the week long Carnivale and Partying...
A lot of sore heads the next day, so make sure you have your Aspirin handy and lots of water...
My cousin Mariella got married in this Church in Offida.
It's a cave (Grotto) that is beautifully adorned. Cosy and small.
The whole village comes along to witness the marriage but as the cave is small they all stand outside.
This is the Street that takes you to the Piazza. Make sure not to wear shoes with good heels... I wore my new flat shoes from Barcelona, they had a small wooden heel and just the one walk down this street and back again my heels were ruined. Best to wear sneakers...
This Street is the only one that goes in... Not many cars drive down this street as the locals walk everywhere...
The only thing about this town and any small towns in Italy, is that if you're from out of town... They all stare at you... Although I noticed this time around June 2007 when I was there compared to when I was there in Feb 1997 and 1987 they didn't stare as much. I guess times have changed and more and more tourists are venturing into the smaller towns. The internet certainly opens up every place to visit...
- Pros:Another pretty village with Panoramic Views
- Cons:Still a small village
- In a nutshell:My Aunty lives here and I will return
