"SAVAGE RIVER LODGE" Frostburg by Witch_No1

We were looking for some unique, one and only romantic place to go... Dreamy, wonderful, almost surrealistic... Far enough from the city to feel that we are AWAY, yet close enough to just hop into the car and drive.
We found information about SAVAGE RIVER LODGE (SRL) in "Washingtonian" Magazine. They called SRL one of the "50 Great Places To Stay" (April 2005). They were oh-so-right!!!!
We had a deer welcoming us on our way. He was just standing in the woods, on the way to the Lodge. Wild flowers all around, grass and trees so green that they were making me dizzy, air so clean that it gave me a headache.
There are quite a few trails, basically right outside the door. The map is waiting for you in the room - you can go and explore. Trails vary in length so everyone will find something for him/herself. Acres of woods, streams will amaze you with the beauty and variety of life forms. Grass, flowers, butterflies, stunning mother of pearl-like bugs (and no, I am not a bug-lover), dragonflies, shinny fish, frogs... even hummingbirds - absolutely magical and fairy-tale-like birds.
It turned out that rustic and simple-looking cabins are rustic only outside. Inside they are CLEAN, warm, cosy and very welcoming. The cabins are awesome: they are rustic yet high end. On the one hand there are wood floor, metal+wood bed, earth colors, big pillows, rocking chair, on the other there are all necesarry things to make the stay comfortable: modern bathroom, in-room mini kitchen with fridge, coffee-maker, electric kettle and selection of teas and chololate drinks (Lovely!!!)
Staff attitude toward touristsis the best. They are very, very welcoming yet they try to give you as much privacy as possible. They will not bother you. We found a note in our room saying that we have to let them know if we need something. No "care-takers" poping-up in your private cabin and checking how much coffee you have left.
There is also a main cabin where you can sit, play games, read books and relax. The Savage River Lodge's dog will probably visit you there.
I also have to recommend the restaurant. Amazing food (try meatloaf!), wondeful wines. Casual, relaxed yet absolutely wonderful dinning experience. With open kitchen you can watch cooks. The restaurant inside is, again, very clean, cosy and welcoming. You can also eat outside on the patio. And no, bugs will not sit on your plate. The walls are sprayed, so bugs stay away. You get the best out of these two worlds: you are as close to the nature as you can, yet without her unwelcomed members in your wine glass. :)
- Pros:For some of you it will be "cons", for me it's "pros" :) The SRL is adult-oriented place. Although they allow well-behaved kids, they don't provide any activities for kids. Consequently your chance of tripping over a toy is very, very small. :)
