Old Stavanger is a beautiful area of little wooden houses and cobbled streets along the west side of the harbour. Here more than 170 houses built in the late 1700s and early 1800s are preserved and renovated. Take a walk through Old Stavanger and feel the atmosphere. A hundred years ago there could live between 10 and 20 persons in each of the houses. The average floor space pr person was 4-5 m2.
There are a few galleries in the area and the sardine canning museum. Most of the houses are owned by private people, so remember that this is not a museum, people lives in these houses. |
