I found myself in the gorgeous Baden-Wurttemburg region of Germany in the summer of 2005, based in and around Meersburg, a medieval town with panaromic views of Lake Constance and a castle complete with knights in shining armor.

Mad Ludwig's famous Neuschwanstein Castle is a perfect day trip, as well as Mainau Island botanical gardens and numerous local wineries. |
|  | To Meersburg by car ferry The car ferry will bring you from Constance to Meersburg if you arrive from Zurich Switzerland as I did. The town and castle tower grow larger as you approach, as your eyes take in the increasing details of the colorful vinyards on the hills to the left of this picture. |
