This is my favorite photo from 300+ taken during my travels in Egypt. The fisherman didn't know it but his timing was just perfect. During my Nile cruise I got in the habit of forcing myself up at dawn to watch the sun rise as the call to prayer was broadcast out over whatever town we happened to be docked. The muezzin of Edfu was joined by hundreds of birds hidden in the trees along the corniche. Then the town came to life as dozens of local buggy drivers started lining up to provide transport to the Temple of Horus. From the top of the cruise ship, we had a perfect vantage point to watch the socializing and preparation. The pride of those polishing their carriage wheels and trim reminded me so much of young men in the U.S. tending to their cars and hot rods. Worlds apart yet such a similarity...See my Downtown Edfu travelogue and my Temple of Horus travelogue for more photos. |
