Ater 14 days touring around Turkey by bus. We decided on the way back to Australia to relax and indulge ourself at some luxury with a stop over in Kuala Lumpur.
We stayed at the Sheraton Imperial for seven nights. When we arrived at the hotel the receptionist asked if we wanted to upgrade our room to executive suite. We were glad we did. Why you may ask. Part of the package was a room upgrade. The room we were given was very impressive. Among the many feature we particulary enjoyed the marble bathroom with complementary oils and bubles. The room also featured walk in robes with a spectacular high rise view. The package also included seven articles per day to be fully laundered. Now for the best part, all day coffee and snacks in the executive lounge and from 6pm free wine, beer, spirit, and finger food. A buffet breakfast was also included everyday. The selection by far exceeded our expectation. A mix of Malay, Chinese, Japanese and Western style cuisine with French pastries. Excellent value. |

| | Kuala Lumpur is becoming modern and growing city with tall buildings dominate the sky. The city infrustructure are as good as other developed nation.
There are many things to do. The city scape is a mixture of modern and traditional. KL is definately a shop till you drop city.
In KL the shopping mall are endless and we found value for money. In my opinion KL has become the Singapore of the past.
There are also markets. If you are good in bargaining go to Chinatown. It is open from the afternoon till late at night. Different kind of vendors set in place selling jewellery, chinese medicines to squash ducks. If you fancy buying imitation goods, designers like Ralph Lauren, Lacoste or illegal dvd this is the place to go. To visit Chinatown it's better in the evening, it seems to me in the evening it is more alive.
We took the train and visited Putrajaya. We were impressed with many of the buildings structure. Just seeing the Putra mosque, the architecture has strong Persian and even Turkish influence. The Malaysia central government area would be more enjoyable once the trees are fully grown.
We took the monorail to the second highest tower in the world, Petronas Twin towers. Get there early to avoid long Q. Nearby there are wading pool for the kids and public park . At certain time you can watch the fountain performing like a dance. At the base of Petronas is a great shopping mall. Its not the cheapest. For sure they dont sell immitations.
From Petronas we decided to walk to Menara KL Tower in Bukit Nanas. Never again it was stinking hot and we were sweating like a dog, but it was well worth it as the view from the Menara top was spectacular. See KL and beyond from above. I was waiting for cumulus nimbus to accumulate so we can watch the performances of mother nature (the lightning), but it never came.
Every night we ate out and we usually go towards Bukit Bintang. There are many restaurants to choose from. Once we ate at Hard Rock Cafe in Bukit Nanas. The food was just ok. If you prefer Kentucky or big macca dont worry, there are available. You wont go hungry in KL.
We usually drink at our hotel, but there are plenty of bars and cafes around town. Try the local beer they are not bad. |
| | Transport The transport network is cleverly designed and supported by a monorail that takes you direct to all major attractions cheaply and avoiding the need for any other means of travel. In addition to the monorail, train stations are also centrally located to connect to ouylying areas such as airport and Putrajaya. |
